Quick Shots From Inside Basel/Geneva Los Angeles

IBG LA

A record number of collectors and enthusiasts gathered at the beautiful Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades this past Thursday evening for the second in WatchTime’s Inside Basel/Geneva 2010 series. A record number of brands also exhibited at this show – 17 in all, including Panerai, Lange, IWC, Cartier, Vacheron, GP, Zenith, and Blancpain, and independents like Max Busser, Jean Dunand, and Peter Speake-Marin. There’s a complete exhibitors list below.

During the cocktail reception guests were able to see and try on the newest watches from the exhibiting brands. In this respect, Inside Basel/Geneva is even better than the Swiss shows, where the public generally cannot try on the watches. The reception had a great “watch fair” feeling as guests could see a broader selection of pieces from each brand than most retailers stock, and in many cases guests could try on watches that are not yet in the shops.

Following cocktails, the group adjourned to the dining room for a wonderful dinner and Jeff Kingston’s presentation. Jeff uses great still images and HD video to present the highlights of Baselworld, SIHH and the Geneva Time Exhibition. This year Jeff covers 42 brands, 25% of which were not in last year’s show. Of course, all of the watches presented are new. Jeff makes a special effort to include some of the wildest, most over-the-top pieces, some of which we guarantee you have not seen before. This year, the videos include some of the most complicated watches “doing their thing”, while other videos were shot in the brands’ workshops so we can see their work firsthand.

Don’t forget that the Miami show is on July 14 – just around the corner. Then we present three shows in September:

- September 14 – New York
- September 16 – Philadelphia
- September 29 – Chicago

    About Mike Disher

My name is Mike Disher and I am WatchTime's technical editor. My interest in watches dates to 1972 and I caught the internet bug in 1997. In 1999 I combined these interests by joining TimeZone.com as its first full-time employee, and later that year I attended my first Basel Fair. I managed TZ from 2000-2007, and in 2008 I joined WatchTime.
