Longines Welcomes Kate Winslet to Its Museum in Saint-Imier

On May 18, Swiss watch brand Longines welcomed actress Kate Winslet, one of the brand’s “Ambassadors of Elegance,” to its headquarters in Saint-Imier for the first time. As part of her trip, the Oscar-winning actress, famed for her roles in “Titanic,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and last year’s award-nominated turn in “Steve Jobs,” visited the on-site Longines Museum and sought out a watch from its extensive collection for a very specific project.

The elegant Longines timepiece that caught Winslet’s eye belongs to the Flagship collection and will be reissued by the company throughout the coming year, with proceeds from its sales to benefit the Golden Hat Foundation, a nonprofit organization co-founded by the actress in 2010, which is dedicated to changing public perception of people on the autism spectrum and to highlighting the capabilities and immense potential of individuals with autism.

Winslet, who has served as one of Longines’ Ambassadors of Elegance for the last six years, was accompanied on her trip by the company’s longtime president, Walter von Känel, who led her through the production and assembly of Longines watches as well as on a Longines Museum tour for a historical journey through the Longines brand, which was founded in 1832 in the same Swiss town in which it still produces timepieces.

At the end of the day, Winslet met with Longines employees and spoke a few words about her experience and about the charitable organization that addresses an issue close to her heart.

“I was delighted to learn that Longines is so in touch with its rich history, from which it draws inspiration for creating new works of art that adhere to its values,” she said. “I am deeply grateful to Longines for the support they have shown for the Golden Hat Foundation, an organization that is dear to my heart, by re-issuing the watch that I have chosen today. It makes me incredibly proud to be able to contribute to raising public awareness of the situation that face individual with autism. I believe that these individuals will greatly benefit from the possibility of learning to communicate, of receiving academic training and of developing real social relationships.”
