Gucci Launches New Watch for 2013 Grammy Awards

Gucci Grammy watches 2013The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will take place this weekend in Los Angeles, and for the third year in a row, Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry will release a new, Grammy-branded wristwatch to coincide with the music industry’s biggest night.

In 2010, Gucci launched its Grammy Special Edition watch collection as part of a three-year partnership with The Recording Academy, organizers of the Grammys. The latest edition to the collection is a timepiece whose design offers a variation on Gucci’s interlocking “Double G” motif, which is incorporated into the bezel. There are two models, each with stainless-steel cases that measure 42 mm in diameter. One has a sun-brushed finish and a black dial; the other has a black PVD finish and a dark yellow dial. The minimalist dials — with the ‘Gucci’ logo at 12 o’clock — are enlivened by circular-grained surfaces that recall the grooves on a vinyl record. The Gucci logo also appears on the watch’s wrist-hugging black leather cuff, along with a stylized gramophone pin, the symbol of The Recording Academy and its famous award. The caseback is engraved with the Gucci and Grammy logos. The watch contains a Swiss quartz movement made by Ronda. However, unlike last year’s Grammy watch, the I-Gucci Museum Timepiece, which was digital, this watch has an analog display and qualifies as “Swiss Made.” Prices are $1,095 for the steel case/black dial version and $1,195 for the PVD case/yellow dial.

In addition to launching the new watch collection, Gucci announced it will also support the Grammy Camp,” a summer program for young music students with the goal of finding and cultivating new musical talent. The camps — where students will meet with industry professionals, write new music, visit recording studios and performance spaces and attend a range of workshops — will be held during the summer of 2013 in New York and Los Angeles, and will culminate with a concert celebrating the completion of their experience.
