WatchTime’s September-October Issue is On Sale Now!

WatchTime Sept-Oct 2012 CoverWatchTime’s September-October issue is on newsstands now, with tests of Rolex’s new Explorer II and Breitling Transocean, an in-depth technical report on the Cartier ID Two concept watch, brand profiles of Ball Watch and Hanhart, and more. Click here for highlights from the issue…

• In our Rolex triple-feature cover package, Jens Koch tests the recently updated Explorer II, with original photos by our stalwart shutterbug, Nik Schölzel; and Mike Disher provides a historical look at Rolex’s Explorer watches as well as a comprehensive Rolex Lexicon, with definitions of “Paraflex,” “Cerachrom,” “Glidelock” and all the other terms that the brand has either created or made its own.

• Koch also gets under the hood of the Breitling Transocean, an elegant departure from the brand’s famously chunky cockpit-styled sports models, in an exclusive test feature, also with photos by Schölzel.

• Joe Thompson profiles the brain trust behind the revitalized Ball Watch Company and explores the technical innovations that the brand has brought to its new Engineer Hydrocarbon watches.

• Gisbert Brunner goes behind the scenes of Hanhart, a Swiss-German watch company whose sporty, pilot-inspired watches are finally making their way to U.S. shores as part of new CEO Thomas Morf’s international expansion strategy.

• Norma Buchanan reports on the Festina Group, maker of Festina and Perrelet and owner of the Soprod movement-manufacturing firm, and its bold plans to capitalize on the Swatch Group’s withdrawal from the movement-making market.

• Disher also contributes a full-length feature on Cartier’s ID Two, a concept watch unveiled in Neuchâtel that incorporates a slew of efficiency-maximizing technologies unprecedented in the watch world.

• Plus lots more, including mini-tests of seven mid-priced chronographs from Baume & Mercier, Hamilton, Montblanc, Frederique Constant, Movado, Stowa, and Porsche Design.

I am a current and past subscriber. My wife inadvertently tossed my copy of this edition (October 2012) before I had the chance to read it. I own a 2013 Explorer II and was looking forward to the review. Thank you.

After a rather expensive overhaul of my Rolex Explorer II by Rolex by factory shop in NY, I was frustrated by the poor performance: -4 sec./day. Went back to wear my inexpensive Military Wenger (Quartz) which consistently delivers -5sec/week! Not to mention my Precisionist Bulova: +/- 5sec/year (? can’t verify that).
I would love to see an issue of Watch Time dedicated to Pilot’s watches. And by the way, can’t understand why majority of modern watches are designed with way too short hands.

Is there any way I can purchase a printing plate or a poster size of this cover? I just got this Explorer II and I love this cover.
