Ulysse Nardin Classico “Year of the Goat” Limited Edition

The Ulysse Nardin Classico “Year of the Goat” is limited to 88 pieces worldwide and features an ornate dial, with a realistic depiction of a goat, executed in champlevé enamel. In this intricate process, an artisan carves cells directly on the watch dial with a chisel, then fills them with enamels whose color palette is generated from a variety of metallic oxides, and finally fires the entire dial until all the enamel melts. The picturesque tableau on the final dial, with subtle variations of color, is the result.

As many watch-industry followers know, Ulysse Nardin has been on a roll in recent years in establishing itself as a vertically integrated manufacture, with moves that included the acquisition of its own chronograph caliber and the development of its first in-house dual-time movement. Among UN’s other steps was its purchase of the Swiss dial enameling specialist Donzé Cadrans, whose artistic expertise is brought to bear on the distinctive dial of the Ulysse Nardin Classico “Year of the Goat.” The watch (Ref. 8156-111-2/CHEVRE) has a 40-mm diameter case made of 18k rose gold and water-resistant to 50 meters. Its automatic movement, Caliber Un-815, has a COSC chronometer certification and a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The movement is visible through a clear sapphire caseback, affixed with screws. The Ulysse Nardin Classico “Year of the Goat” limited edition comes on a dark blue leather strap (picking up the tones of the champleve enamel dial) with a rose-gold tang buckle.
