Who are Switzerland’s Top Chronometer Producers?

Rolex, Omega and Breitling once again lead the list of Switzerland’s top producers of chronometer watches. Data recently released for 2009 by Switzerland’s official chronometer testing agency, COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres), shows that the Big Three accounted for 78% of all chronometer certificates issued that year. Oris Creates U.S. Subsidiary, Names V.J. Geronimo CEO

Oris SA has established a new U.S. and Caribbean subsidiary, Oris Watches USA, and named V.J. Geronimo as the chief executive officer. Effective September 1, the new subsidiary will take over U.S. distribution from Hawthorne, N.Y.-based Oris USA, Inc., headed by Mark Wasserman. Movado Group Announces Results and Retail Boutique Closings

Movado Group, Inc. has announced its first quarter results. The company enjoyed top-line growth of 25%, though the bottom line did not fair as well, with an adjusted net loss of $4.8 million. The company also announced that it will close its retail boutique division effective June 30, 2010 in an effort to redirect investment toward higher return businesses. The move does not affect the company's 31 outlet stores, nor will it affect the company's flagship Movado Boutique in New York's Rockefeller … [Read more...]

Rating Watch Brands’ Digital IQ, From Genius to Feeble

TAG Heuer has been awarded first place in the "Watches" category of the "Digital IQ Index: Ranking the Digital Competence of Luxury Brands", a survey conducted by the Luxury Lab of New York University's Stern School of Business. The Digital IQ Index ranks brands as Genius, Gifted, Average, Challenged and Feeble based on their digital competence. Apple finished first overall with a Digital IQ of 170. Another Record Year for COSC in 2008

After setting records in 2006 and 2007, the Contrôle officiel suisse des chronomètres (COSC) once again issued a record number of attestations in 2008 with 1,599,588, an increase of +8.6% over the 2007 results. The number of timepieces submitted rose by 10.6% to 1,676,515. Of these, 1,536,950 were awarded to mechanical movements and 62,638 went to quartz calibers, with the large majority of the latter (56,224) going to Breitling products. … [Read more...]

Rolex Leads U.S. Watch Advertiser Pack

U.S. luxury watch king Rolex was the top watch advertiser by far in the United States in 2008. TNS Media Intelligence, which tracks watch advertising across 17 media categories, estimates that Rolex spent $49.30 million on ad placements last year.
