Watchmaker Dominique Loiseau Passes Away


Dominique_Loiseau_560150French watchmaker Dominique Loiseau, known for creating the Rose des Temps clock, Blancpain 1735 wristwatch, and other notable timepieces, has passed away. Last year, Loiseau joined Girard-Perregaux to develop new in-house movements for the brand. Read below for Girard-Perragaux’s official statement on the watchmaker’s passing.

The management and employees of Girard-Perregaux and Kering wish to express their deep sorrow at the news of the sudden death of legendary watchmaker and philosopher of time, Dominique Loiseau and express their deepest condolences to his family and relatives.

Dominique was a special person, a visionary who had the genius of creating and crafting masterpieces and, at the same time, to be himself a special ‘mechanism ‘ of the beautiful circle of  watchmakers and all people working in our industry.

The watch world has lost today one of his most talented sons that has inspired, awed and revolutionized.

    Unfortunately I had not the opportunity to meet personally Mr Dominique Loiseau at the stand of Girard Perregaux in the Basel World 2013.
    Only one year ago I took notice of his own Atelier, with a unique model, the 1f4, which is considered one of the most complicated watches ever produced. Only two pieces is manufactured per year.
    Watchtime was the first publication to notice the passing away of the legendary French watchmaker.
