Chicago Art Deco Society To Display Vintage Elgin Watch Collections

p150For all of you vintage watch aficionados in the Chicago area — we met some of you at our Chicago Inside Basel-Geneva event — we’ve just found out about an exhibit called “Made in Elgin: An Art Deco Legacy,” presented by the Chicago Art Deco Society and taking place at the Elgin Area Historical Society & Museum on Saturday, October 20, from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM. It features two major private collections, brought in only for one day, and focuses on the city of Elgin’s history as a manufacturer of luxury goods. The collections include items from the Elgin Watch Company, which produced in its heyday about 20,000,000 timepieces, and the Illinois Watch Case Company, which manufactured, in addition to its watch cases, decorative enameled boudoir sets, compacts and tobacciana. Check out the photos below for a few of the items on exhibit. Detailed info is at chicagoartdecosociety.com. Space is limited, so if you’re interested, reserve your spot by emailing chicagoartdecosociety@yahoo.com or phoning 312-280-9097. Tell ’em WatchTime sent you.
