Even if the hands of a watch always move in a circle, some wrists simply look better with a square timepiece. With this in mind, NOMOS Glashütte created an automatic version of its classic model Tetra equipped with DUW 3001 — the brand’s tenth proprietary caliber and the foundation of the next generation of NOMOS watches.
As its name suggests, this new automatic Tetra model is part of the neomatik series. Last fall, NOMOS Glashütte released ten models ticking with DUW 3001 into the market as the ‘neomatik 1st edition.’ These limited-edition timepieces quickly sold out, and now neomatik has gone into series production. DUW 3001, the caliber at work within these watches, measures only 3.2 millimeters in height — and is therefore one of the thinnest automatic movements on the market to be produced in series.
In creating DUW 3001, NOMOS’ in-house research and development department achieved the impossible: Not only were production tolerances halved but efficiency and precision also significantly increased. Thus, the latest Tetra model is both elegantly slender and highly precise thanks to the groundbreaking innovation at its heart.
NOMOS’ latest proprietary caliber also contains another minor technical innovation: the DUW regulation system. This component — optimized for DUW 3001 — is replacing the Triovis regulation system that had previously been used in this automatic caliber. For NOMOS Glashütte’s watchmakers, this means that reaching the highest rate accuracy just became easier and quicker — and for its customers, it is a further assertion of the watchmaking company’s technological independence.
Furthermore, with a diagonal diameter of 46 millimeters and an updated dial, this new interpretation of the classic NOMOS timepiece is sportier, more modern, and more masculine than previous hand-wound versions.
Tetra neomatik comes in two color options—one with cyan blue accents on a white silver-plated dial, the other with matching green details on a deep blue dial. Both watch faces feature a small golden neomatik logo.
What has been retained, however, is the beautiful and incredibly long-lasting strap crafted from Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan that accompanies both versions; featuring a remborde finish and fitted with the unique NOMOS winged clasp, the strap is a piece of jewelry in itself. Tetra neomatik and Tetra neomatik tiefblau are priced at $3,860 and $3,980, respectively, and will be available at selected retailers from summer 2016.
