Superb Results for Antiquorum’s Year End Sale

Antiquorum’s December 8 auction in New York totaled $3,506,675. 83% of the lots were sold, and 119% sold by value, based on the low estimates. 419 registered internet bidders competed with clients in the sale room and on the telephone for the 356 timepieces that were offered. Bids came in from across the world including from Australia, Italy, China, Hong Kong, United Kingdom and the United States.

The highlight of the sale was the exceptional and unique F.P. Journe set of platinum watches (lot 122). The “Invenit et Fecit” collection of six matching-number wristwatches with champagne dials sold for $200,500. The set included:

– Octa Chronographe, No. 1000-C. Made in 2005. Self-winding, platinum chronometer wristwatch with round button fly-back chronograph, 60-minute register, large date

– Octa Luna,” No. 1000-L. Made in 2005., Self-winding, platinum chronometer wristwatch with 120-hour power reserve, large date, moon phases

– Chronomètre à Résonance, No. 1000 R. Made in 2005. Two time zone, platinum chronometer wristwatch with resonance controlled twin independent movements, 40-hour power-reserve indication.

– Octa Automatic, No. 1000-A. Made in 2005. Self-winding, platinum chronometer wristwatch with 120-hour power reserve indicator, large date.

– Octa Calendrier, No. 1000-Q. Made in 2005. Self-winding, platinum chronometer wristwatch with annual calendar, retrograde date, large day of the week and month indication.

– Remontoir d’Egalité – Tourbillon Souverain, No. 1000-T. Made in 2005. Platinum chronometer wristwatch with visible one-minute tourbillon regulator and constant force remontoir, 42- hour power reserve indication.

F.P. Journe set in platinum

A Greubel Forsey “Double Tourbillon 30° Vision,” No. 61. Made in 2005, sold for $160,000. This piece, in 18K white gold, has a 30° inclined visible inner one minute tourbillon regulator, visible outer four-minutes tourbillon regulator with four minutes rotation indicator, twin barrels and 72-hour power reserve. The presale estimate was $150,000 – $200,000.

Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon 30° Vision

Patek Philippe did exceptionally well in the sale with this 18K yellow gold ref. 3971 (lot 300) selling for $98,500 after heated competition between phone, room and internet bidders. This piece was made in 1990 and sold on July 22nd, 1990. It included a fitted box and the Extract from the Archives.

Not to be overlooked, the A. Lange & Söhne Flyback Datograph (lot 354) achieved an impressive $74,500.

A Rolex Cosmograph Daytona “Paul Newman” ref. 6239 in stainless steel on strap, produced circa 1968, brought $64,900.
