Corum Acquires Technical Expertise; Launches Admiral’s Cup Seafender 46 Dive and Chrono Dive

Corum Seafender Chronograph

In a move reminiscent of Hublot’s acquisition of BNB Concept, Corum has acquired key members of Les Artisans Horlogers, a movement specialist that filed for bankruptcy in January 2011. Corum is also launching two new Admiral’s Cup models: the Seafender 46 Dive and Seafender 46 Chrono Dive. Find pricing inside.

Like BNB Concept, Les Artisans Horlogers worked quietly with brands to develop highly innovative and complicated movements, including recently the H-shaped movement in MB&F’s HM4 Thunderbolt. Les Artisans Horlogers co-founder Laurent Besse, along with two engineers, one movement designer and one technician, will soon begin work at Corum’s facility in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Besse was previously head of research and development at Progress Watch SA. Corum CEO Antonio Calce’s plans for the brand include developing the resources to design and manufacture calibers in-house. This acquisition is a major step in that direction.

Corum is also announcing two new additions to its Admiral’s Cup line: the Seafender 46 Dive and Seafender 46 Chrono Dive, which will debut at Baselworld this week. The Dive measures 46×16.05mm and its 12-sided case is carved from grade 5 titanium. 300-meter water resistance, a 120-tooth unidirectional bezel and luminescent hands and hour-markers make this a serious dive watch that is equally at home beneath the waves or a sport shirt cuff.

The dial is shades of black and gray, and an inner bezel ring features the 12 nautical pennants that are the Admiral’s Cup trademark. The solid screw-in caseback is engraved in its center with the inscription “Dive 300 Meters”, as well as the figure of a diver.

Inside, the automatic CO947 movement is COSC-certified and offers hours, minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and a day/date display appearing through two small windows at 3 o’clock. A sturdy and comfortable black vulcanized rubber strap is secured by a titanium pin buckle. The U.S. MSRP is $8150.

The Chrono Dive is similarly sized and also offers a 300-meter water resistant 12-sided grade 5 titanium case with 120-tooth unidirectional bezel. The dial features subtle gray shades and is surrounded by an inner bezel ring with the 12 nautical pennants that identify the Admiral’s Cup.

This model is equipped with Caliber CO753, an automatic chronograph movement that is chronometer-certified by the COSC. The start-stop-reset pushbuttons are screw-locked, which means they must be unscrewed before the chronograph functions may be employed. The U.S. MSRP is $9150.
