Antiquorum to Offer Unique Patek Minute Repeater Retailed by Cartier

Antiquorum Patek Philippe ref. 2419

On March 10, Antiquorum Auctioneers will offer a range of important modern and vintage timepieces at its U.S. headquarters on Madison Avenue in New York City. The sale will include a unique yellow-gold Patek Philippe ref. 2419 minute-repeating wristwatch retailed by Cartier in 1950. This timepiece is accompanied by a Cartier certificate of authenticity.

The Patek minute repeater is estimated at $300,000 to $500,000.

The wristwatch is offered in pristine condition and its originality is confirmed by the Patek Philippe extract of the archives which states that the watch was manufactured in 1946 as a minute-repeating wristwatch with a specially made movement. Additionally, the wristwatch is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Cartier that confirms that the wristwatch was retailed by Cartier New York.

The watch was consigned by the family of the original owner, a prominent New York businessman. It was custom ordered at a Patek Philippe exhibition held by Cartier in New York, with a minimalist design that provided ease of use. It features a previously unseen 7mm oversized winding crown, an extra large repeater slide, and unique dial with an oversized subsidiary seconds dial. These unique features provided the owner, who at the time was advanced in age, with simplicity and ease of use.

Prior to the discovery of the present watch, there were only five known references for vintage Patek Philippe minute-repeating wristwatches. The Patek Philippe ref. 2419 is the only example that features a concave bezel and an oversized crown and repeater hammer. In addition, the present ref. 2419 features a previously unknown Patek Philippe minute repeating movement.

“We are extremely proud to offer this exceptional timepiece in our March auction,” said Evan Zimmermann, President & CEO of Antiquorum. “The various unique aspects of this wristwatch effectively re-write the experts knowledge on vintage Patek Philippe minute repeating wristwatches. It is for this reason the Patek Philippe ref. 2419 offered in Antiquorum’s March 10th auction is arguably one of the most important wristwatches ever discovered and offered at auction in the United States.”

“This magnificent watch is not only highly desirable due to its unique features, but also because it is offered in its original and unpolished condition,” said Charles Tearle, Watch Director, Antiquorum USA.
