Antiquorum’s Geneva Sale Achieves Over SFr.6.3 Million


Antiquorum Sale Results

Antiquorum’s last Geneva sale of the Spring season, “Collecting Modern & Vintage Timepieces”, held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel this weekend past, achieved CHF 6’327’428, with 84% of the 500 lots being sold. The sale saw strong in-room presence and lively telephone and Internet bidding, with international participation including bidders from France, Germany, Switzerland, USA and the United Kingdom. Asian bidders from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China competed aggressively to acquire some of the most important pieces.

The top sale result was the Grande & Petite Sonnerie Tourbillon Clockwatch (lot 500) attributed to Victorin Piguet, with the tourbillon carriage by Albert Pellaton-Favre, made for Tchétounoff Frères, Moscow, circa 1900. This watch sold to a collector from Taiwan for an impressive CHF 366,000 after fierce telephone bidding against a European bidder.

Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces achieved very good results, including the Grande Complication Gyrotourbillon No. 1/1, pièce unique (lot 174), which reached a notable CHF 342,000. Sold in December 2007. this is an 8 day going platinum wristwatch with visible Jaeger- LeCoultre caliber 177 with inclined lightweight two-cage multi-axis spherical tourbillon, two barrels with sapphire covers, “marchante” equation of time, perpetual calendar with retrograde month indication, leap-year indication and patented instant date display by means of two retrograde hands, power reserve indication, “1000 Hours Control”, and Jaeger-LeCoultre platinum deployant clasp.

Antiquorum Lot 174

Offered at auction for the first time by its original owner, the Patek Philippe Ref. 5101P, “10 Day Tourbillon” (lot 167) sold for CHF 246,000. Sold on December 18, 2006 by G. Collins & Sons, British Crown Jewelers and personal jeweler to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This rectangular and curved Art Deco style platinum chronometer wristwatch features a one-minute tourbillon regulator, tandem mainspring barrels for 10-day power-reserve and a platinum Patek Philippe buckle.

Another highly collectible Patek Philippe wristwatch, the Ref. 5004 in yellow gold (lot 172) obtained CHF 210,000. Sold in October 2009, this 18K yellow gold wristwatch features split-seconds chronograph, registers, perpetual calendar, moon phases, leap year, 24 hour indication and an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe deployant clasp.

Rounding out the top five, this Patek Philippe ref. 3448, retailed by Cartier (lot 490) brought CHF 204,000. Made in 1968 and sold on June 12th, 1968 this 18K gold self-winding wristwatch is a perpetual calendar with moon phases and an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe buckle.
